Developments in the automotive fuse industry / reliable mass production system

With our eyes fixed on next generation needs, we contribute to the development of a safe, comfortable automotive society.

As the leading automotive fuse company we support the diverse demands of our customers.

Positioning ourselves in tandem with fast paced developments in motorization, Pacific Engineering Corporation (PEC) has always walked along the leading edge of the automotive fuse industry. PEC has been consistently ranked as leader due to progress, such as the introduction of the world's first fully automatic glass fuse production in 1970.

Automotive fuses are broadly divided into the following categories: Blade fuses, slow blowing fuses and the EV Fuses (High-voltage Fuse) with three different kinds are used in hybrid cars. Blade fuses, which have the longest history of these categories, have miniaturized to meet the needs of modern technology. Currently, even more compact, lower cost “low profile” fuses are becoming more and more commonplace.

Slow blow fuses, which are assembled into circuits used primarily by engines (windshield wipers, power windows and so on), began manufacturing and sale in 1982, achieving evolution to meet changing requirements. At present, there is growing demand for multi-polarized “multi-slow blow&rdquot; fuses in consideration of total circuit miniaturization. The domestic market share of the EV fuse we introduced to the world for hybrid vehicles is nearly one hundred percent. With the growth of the global eco-movement we expect future demand to continue to increase.

With our fully automatic production lines and streamlined corporate cooperation, our mass production system enables yearly output of 1.4 billion units.

Although automotive and household electric fuses are designed for the same purpose, they differ in both regulation and demanded specifications. From the establishment of PEC, we have focused all our technology and research on automotive fuses. This kind of dedication to a single product field has led to high level of trust and our present annual production level of 1.4 billion units. In February 2007 we manufactured our 15 billionth fuse, and we continue consistent growth towards 20 billion and 30 billion.

All our production lines are fully automatic achieving thorough rationalization and cost reduction. Our reliable production system is comprised of our ever-improving cutting edge facilities. The smooth connection between our development department and production department is unique in the fuse industry. As prototypes become products, points of innovation and improvement, issues and information are shared with feedback flowing in both directions. This system allows us to adapt precisely and swiftly to meet changing customer requirements.
